Firstly, I want to apologize if there is a clear answer to this question, but looking through the forums I’ve been unable to find a consistent or clear response to what I’m seeing in Manager since we upgraded our Server Version to versions newer than 25.7.xxx
I’ve recorded a video to make it easier to understand and explain our experience
The audio isn’t the best so apologies for that.
Essentially to summarise:
We were on an old version of self-hosted server edition
We upgrade and noticed PDF & Email buttons remained on the “View” pages of invoices/receipts etc.
Clicking PDF did nothing but generate errors in the logs
Clicking email and sending always failed due to “PDF Conversion Failed” error
Internal PDF Generator has never been listed in Obsolete features
SMTP is configured correctly and working fine (as it always has)
I understand that the internal PDF generator is a legacy feature and may have been removed completely.
The issues I need clarification on are:
Why the PDF / Email buttons remain if they just error out and don’t work.
Why I can’t use the email feature without the PDF error happening (no way to choose not to attach it)?
Why I’m reading so many posts of people who still have a working PDF methodology (although specifics are unclear)
I understand that I can “Print” > “Save as PDF” - that works fine, is that all people are doing, or is there a working internal method that leverages that feature but is still able to function within manager?
Again, sorry if this is a redundant topic, but searches in the forum and guides haven’t been fruitful for me.
So sorry, it’s in the video but I forgot to include it in the post.
At the time of posting I was on: 25.9.10.2761
I see there is a new version now 25.9.11.2765
I will try updating to that version to see if it makes any difference and report back.
Hi, I’ve just updated my server edition to 25.10.14.2983, lost functionality of e-mail, mail server settings are correct but when you try to send mail just no response.
The latest version (25.10.20) is using locally installed Chrome web-browser on server edition to generate PDF files. This should fix the issue and make the PDF generation faster just like it already is on desktop edition.
Hi, I’ve tested using my everyday browser (Edge) as well as Chrome, but my email and pdf buttons on forms still do not work. I really enjoy using Manager and want to purchase the self-hosted server, but this is a feature I’d REALLY like to see working like the desktop version first. Using 25.10.20.3008 on Windows 11.
@shahabb for now yes - I’m not sure how to do this better. I could ship server edition as electron headless app. But I’m afraid it would just add extra complexity when alternative is to just install single dependency.
