Searching for Serial Numbers (Custom Field Report)

A long time ago (when I still had hair on my head) I added a custom field to my invoices so that I could do a search on serial numbers to enable me to double check warranties and ownership etc.

Using the Report “Sales Invoice Totals by Custom Field” I was able to add and use “Ctrl + F” when the report was on screen and it would give me a search field so I was able to punch in a serial number and then by clicking (or drilling down) on the Value Column on the report it would give me the invoice details.

I haven’t had to do any searches for quite a while but as I need to do some now, I’ve found that the “Ctrl + F” trick is not behaving so the search field is no longer appearing on screen

If anyone is able to explain what I’m doing wrong or what I may have overlooked I would be extremely grateful.

Just another question on doing the serial number search and with all of the work that’s been going on with Manager, I was also wondering if I may be able to try doing an “Advanced Query” instead of using the report to track down the sales details relating to the serial numbers ?

As always, I do apologize if I’ve rambled on too much and of course I would like to again thank all of those people involved with Manager’s development

Yes, Advance Query or even without Advance Query you can get the desired result on Sales Invoice Tab or Sales invoice -Lines (if custom field is placed on Sales invoice -Lines). You just need to enable the Serial number column (Click Edit columns at the end of the page) and then use the Manager’s built-in search.

I’ve read through what you said and had a go at what I thought I had to do but couldn’t get it to do the job for me.**

I’ve also tried the following step but “Serial Number” or “Custom Field” doesn’t seem to be available to select

As you can see, I do have a “Serial No” column but if I go into either “Sales Invoice Lines”, “Form Defaults” or “Edit Columns), the Serial No column doesn’t appear so I’m guessing that I’ve missed a step in the exercise somewhere.

Can you post a screenshot of your custom fields under settings?

Also post edit screen of an invoice.
