I am looking for a way to print checks. I have seen a lot of topics on the issue dating 2014- 2019, but am not clear if the current application has this capability without having to enter scripts. I transitioned from QB desktop. If anyone knows of a Word template, that would work fine for me too.

There isn’t any way to do that without coding. Moreover, it’s not recommended to write custom themes at this point since they’ve been placed under Obsolete Features.
Your best option is to write a word template and fine tune it to fit your cheques as you already suggested, however, this forum isn’t the right place to search for such template.
