I hope this forum allows for feedback on Manager- both positive and negative.
Does anyone else feel that the New Receipt and Payment pages have become too busy, long and unsightly??
Fortunately, I don’t have to manually input much data these days using these sections, as I import from my bank. However, when I do, I find I have to scroll down to the Create button, having to bypass the plethora of options en route. This is inefficient and a tad irritating for me. As a simple user, I like a simple, neat and tidy GUI. I appreciate that it is a tool and workhorse first and foremost, but I feel Manager is in danger of losing the balance between being “neat and tidy” and “too bulky, busy and aesthetically ugly” in trying to cater for all business user needs.
The section highlighted in the screenshot, IMHO, maybe needs to be contracted/hidden (unless activated) to keep the page short and easily workable. Maybe a customisable option.
I have been using Manager for a number of years now and seen it grow ever more complicated. A simple GUI, though, should not be neglected.
I’m of the view that these options should be moved to the Settings section. In practice, such configurations are established as standards for data entry and are not meant to be changed with every new entry. This approach is essential for ensuring uniformity and maintaining internal control.
@muffin I agree with you but receipt screen is not the worst offender. Sales invoice edit form is worse.
Optional column checkboxes should be collapsed into Extra columns and then you can pick which columns you want.
Custom title should be handled by custom themes. That field shouldn’t probably exist anymore.
Footers should be also handled by custom themes. Another field that could eliminated without losing any functionality.
Image section can be also removed because now you can create image custom fields.
So I do agree with you on all points and have it in my mind how I want to simplify this.
Now on custom themes, the current implementation is still not really working that great. The biggest issue is that even if you want to change just one tiny thing, your custom theme will be 100+ lines of code. This is why I still need to keep Custom title as a checkbox because I can’t force people to custom theme if all they want is just rename the document. But I’m hoping new custom theme mechanism I will reveal soon will shift the balance and will allow me to remove some of the fields from many forms.
Hello, re the new receipts/payment page, I have often thought the “Create” button could be moved up on the page, say under, “Add Line”. That would save scrolling down to the create button, particularly working on smaller screens. Just a thought.
I am of the thought that the circled area referred to could perhaps, if able to be, in a drop-down. Always closed unless opened and an option selected for eg that particular receipt. I too have been using manager for some time now and find that I utilise these options 50% of the time. For me having to change this in settings would be more hassle and time consuming.
Or all the options could be hidden / collapsed initially into a “Show options” button. Clicking which would expand the section to essentially show the current screen.
