Hi,
I am using Ubuntu and I just downloaded the appimage today (v23.10.1.1016)
I am learning accounting.
When I click on new Journal entry the text box heights are all smaller than the text inside them and it is very hard to read:
You can see from the uplaoded picture, the Date box makes the text unreadable.
It also really should be wider - I can’t see the whole date.
I have a laptop with High DPI.
I have experimented with environment variable settings:
export GDK_DPI_SCALE=1
export GDK_SCALE=1.5
but they scale the whole app and do not correct the problem. (I have tried various values)
Has anyone encountered this? What should I try to fix it?
As a workaround I can load chrome while the app is running and navigate to: http://localhost:55667/businesses
This gives me a UI that is usable. It would be nice to know how to fix the internal browser though.
First off all this forum is not about teaching anyone accounting, you can learn that elsewhere. Secondly if you really wanted to learn how Manager functions then you would not talk about Journal entries. See Make journal entries | Manager
Specifically:
In Manager, most transactions are entered in other functional tabs, thereby automating many decisions about account posting and reducing errors. So journal entries are relatively few. Most record transfers between accounts. In fact, no transaction involving the actual receipt or payment of funds by a business can be recorded via a journal entry.
So if you want to learn accouting just do that, but elsewhere, if you want to apply what you learned in any software, then yes use Manager .
A likely cause for incorrect rendering on linux is the gtk toolkit. You might want to check the version you’re using. It’s possible that an update/rollback is needed.
