I can’t get a journal entry done to my ‘cash on hand’ account

You have two issues:

  1. One cannot record any transaction involving the movement of actual money with a journal entry. Read Record a receipt | Manager and Record a payment | Manager.
  2. Cash on hand is a control account, made up of cash accounts. You cannot record entries directly to the control account, but must set up and select a cash account. See Set up a cash account | Manager.
