Invoice lock after Date

That’s right and this is actually acceptable as long as someone doesn’t mean anyone.

yes but it will make easy to manage data, specially one which is already submitted to tax authorities. If only admin or head of staff is allowed to edit , chances of mistakes will be near to zero.

your saying of “computer systems will allow someone to go in and alter the data” is like telling that there is no need to use lock in door because key of that lock exists.

User access is already available, only thing to attach edit/update access with some server time/date. user access(permission) options got better in last 2,3 years, i hope it will be done also in future.

it is requirement due to tax laws, not personal desire of anybody.

I thought the same way however I now think that imposes a requirement greater than is actually required.

To explain, forgery is possible with all systems. The accounting software does not have to make forgery impossible, it just has to ensure it does not support forgery via normal program use.

So yes it is possible to reinstall an older version of a business file and effectively deleted submitted data, or hack around in the API or similar low level and change data. But doing so is clearly not using the program as intended so the user is responsible for the consequences of such behaviour.

In summary the accounting program needs to support use consistent with jurisdictions requirements. It does not need to be prevent malicious use.

still waiting for @lubos

You are correct. I believe that transaction narrations and the figures entered for them should be given equal importance. @lubos, looking at the trend in tax compliance around the world. Lock date, in my opinion, should be able to lock everything while still allowing cheques to be cleared after the lock date. It is possible to alter the narration of a transaction in order to mislead individuals about the transaction’s purpose without making any changes to the transaction amounts.

I believe that the common accounting software industry practice is that all documents are editable until they have been approved by designated users (admins/other). Thereafter, all docs are automatically locked and no one can change them. This achieves the desired result and places a reliable control procedure in place.

Would highly apprciate if this can be implemented here as well so our software can compete with others in the industry even more.

Locking after sending to an external authority would be more useful and general requirement imo.
