Inventory kit sales

Hi everyone

We are garbage bags manufacturer, we buy our raw materials in kg and we usually sell in kg. So our main costing and pricing is in kg.

However, some customer want us to sell them in pieces. We have package of 1000 pieces of garbage bags, but due to the nature of the product the weight of packages are not unified. i.e. one package will be 8 kg the other will be 8.1 kg or 7.9 kg. In or current system (not Manager io), we solve this by having 2 units in our inventory (kg and quantity of packages). when sell in packages we record the total weight of the packages in kg.

Since I know Manager does not support multiple units for inventory, I did everything in kg and made inventory kit in packages so that I can make sales invoice in packages.

When making inventory kit I can not predefined how the packages converts to kg, since as I explained above the weight of packages are not unified. So I made custom income account. say (sales by packages)

My problem is; we I execute a sales invoice by packages, in the profit and loss statement there will be the amount of sales invoice by packages, but the inventory cost will not be affected. I would like to find a way of linking the sales invoice by packages to the inventory cost, since in actual situation I will know the exact quality of Kgs for that sales invoice.

Or if you have a better solution for my problem please feel free to share it with me.

Thank you

You should not be using inventory kits for this. You should be using production orders. See the Guide: Use production orders to manufacture inventory items | Manager. The bill of materials will include, for example, 8 kg of raw plastic for a finished item of 1000 pieces of garbage bags. The variation in weight of your 1000-piece bundle would not be a consideration. Any variability would be taken up during the production stage, where there could be overage or underage in how many bags you obtain from 8 kg of raw material. (This is a classic issue of yield variation.) Periodically, you will need to conduct physical inventory and either write-off or write-on inventory adjustments. See Write off inventory | Manager and Write on inventory | Manager.

Inventory kits are shortcuts for selling inventory items together that are purchased, manufactured, and stocked separately.
