How to add more than one unit to the item

How to add more than one unit to the item

Out of interest, what is the use case for a single quantity to have more than one unit?

You cannot do this. All units or pieces of an inventory item are presumed to be identical. If a unit of measure is defined, it applies to all pieces of that item. How else could the program account for the item? You cannot sell or purchase rope in feet, inches, meters, and centimeters and keep track of your quantity.

If you want an item in more than one unit, you need to define multiple items. Use production orders to convert one to another. This has been discussed dozens of times in the forum.

Some items come in a box containing 24 pieces
We buy it as a box and sell it in parts
Also in pharmacies, you can sell a medicine box containing two bars, or sell half of it
One bar

  1. Create two inventory items, one for a box, one for a piece.
  2. Buy the box.
  3. Create a production order to “produce” 24 pieces from 1 box. See Use production orders to manufacture inventory items | Manager.
