How to add/change Inventory On Hand Prices

A (long) while ago I added a few grams gold and silver to my “inventory on hand”.
Somehow, I managed to actually add (back then) current prices for the assets.
This all figures accurately in my “Summary” and the “Inventory Items” tabs…

however, given the prices have moved, I wanted to go in and adjust those.
By the life of mine I cannot change the price of the existing assets, nor add prices of eventual new assets (I just tested by adding a new “inventory on hand”, hoping that maybe that is where I would have added the price-per-unit… nope, no luck)

Can someone please tell my poor brain how I managed to get this done and how to change the price-per-unit?
I also checked in the settings under currencies and so on, but nowhere are my XAU and XAG prices to be found lol

Please indicate which Edition (Cloud, Desktop, Server), Operating System (Windows, Linux, IOS) and Manager version if not Cloud you are using. Ensure that you have the latest version see https://www.manager.io/download

Inventory has recently gotten lots of changes and therefore important to look at the new guides:

https://www.manager.io/guides/inventory-items

https://www.manager.io/guides/inventory-item-form

As for your question note that the linked guides state:

Default Accounting for Inventory Transactions

By default, when using the Inventory Items tab:

  • Purchases of inventory items will debit your Inventory on Hand asset account.
  • Sales of inventory items will credit your Inventory Sales income account.
  • When an inventory item is sold, the Inventory on Hand balance is reduced by the Unit Cost multiplied by the quantity sold. The amount is debited to the Inventory Purchases expense account, reflecting your cost of goods sold.

Recalculating Unit Costs

The Unit Cost can be recalculated using the Recalculate button. For more details, refer to the Recalculating Unit Cost Guide.

Thank you.

I am using 24.10.5.1873 Linux Server Edition.
I tried to follow those guides, but even if I add (and fill out) Unit sale and buy prices, the values shown in the Summary do not change.

Basically I would imagine there should be a “Unit Rate” or similar, which I cannot find in the UI, similar to when you set let’s say a currency (BTC > CHF for example).
I would imagine that similar to fetching new currency data I could then fetch new Asset data (such as gold or silver etc)

I now recall that when I added the assets, it was in the “initial balances”, so basically since then, nothing has been added or removed from those. And that value is basically now not up-to-date anymore, because gold changed significantly since. So I would like to adjust that.

Your version is hundreds of updates behind. So please update your Server Edition.

Thanks and sorry the late reply

I updated everything, yet, I still can’t anyhow change that inventory price.

Simple question:

  • I added inventory XAU and XAG back in time as inventory when I setup the book (it is a journal entry, nothing else)
  • Now XAU and XAG prices changed

How do I keep them up to date just like for a currency. I am of course willing to delete the Journal entry if that is what it takes and insert these two assets somehow else. My goal is to have simply keep track of these assets, just like one can for Crypto, Currencies, and other things.

I tried setting new cost of Inventory > no change
I tried to figure out HOW one would actually add new inventory while pulling values like we can do for currencies… or at least set a course value > cannot see any such feature
I tried Recalculating Unit Costs > nothing there to select!
I tried find the Unit Cost column in inventory: not there!

I think the task should be simple, but I find myself struggling to figure this out.

Thanks!
