I know that in the past there was the approach to not create bank connections as they are too varied and differ across countries. I noticed lately a few software suite using enablebanking to enable direct bank connections for almost all of Europe. https://enablebanking.com/, might be something to look into for upcoming features.
Who would bear the cost and how would non European users benefit? From Frequently Asked Questions | Enable Banking Docs it seems that:
“…Our pricing is volume based. The cost depends on the number of accounts accessed and payments made per month…”
