Email function missiing

Where did the email function for quotes, invoices… to be sent directly moved to?? It is not very practical to pdf every document and send to a list of recipients.

Please help!!

Setting → Obsolete function → email

I guess @Patch meant this:

Setting → Obsolete features → Internal PDF generator

You can still email your invoices and quotes but they will be inilined.

Yet another method is to use Customer Portals

Do I miss something??

Why is the email function obsolete?? I do not see any alternative options…??

Hi @Luzanne,

Email isn’t obsolete, it’s emailing documents as PDFs.

To enable that you can follow this:

Hi Ealfardan, Thank you for your help. It seems like half my problem is that we use a Gmail account and Gmail no longer support 3rd party apps. So it is an additional issue…

Maybe this could be of help:

Could someone please supply some additional background as to why the PDF generator has been made obsolete? I still use it, because it simplifies the process of sending invoices or quotes. Otherwise, you have to generate it manually and then attach it to the email manually. I can’t see logical reason to make it obsolete.

The developer explained that in detail years ago. In simple terms, there is no PDF generator that will work on all supported operating systems with all languages. If it works for you, keep using it. There are no plans to remove it. But it isn’t supported. So if something breaks functionality in the future, there will be no remedy.

My memory was a solution was found but would add to the program image size. Which was the reason it was not done.

To my knowledge the PDF generator does not work in all countries and that is why Manager now inlines sales invoices and other documents into the emails sent that are set up under Email Settings, as indicated by @Ealfardan. If the PDF generator works in your country and you prefer it to inlined documents then you can enable it even though it is an Obsolete Feature.

Thank you for explaining this to me Tut. I did have a search in the forum but couldn’t find anything.
As it’s supposed to be a Portable Document File, you would think that there would be a generic generator that would work. It does make the sending of documents in emails so much easier than having to attach them separately and it would be a shame if it failed to work in the future but understand that things move on

Oops, I think I have confused the program size increase required to support email on different ports with that required to support a fully functional pdf generator Emailing of reports - #23 by lubos So it is possible but required embedding chrome.

However I have trouble believing there is not a better way such as using https://mozilla.github.io/pdf.js/getting_started/ or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppler_(software) but I’m probably looking for the wrong thing

You can also use the “Print” option and simply set your printer to PDF. An extra step but will get you a PDF file of the invoice.

My feeling here is that business process need and practicality ought to be prioritized over the technical difficulty of a function.

i.e. while there may be (as many have offered up) suggestions of involved and time consuming manual work-around processes if the application isn’t pratical it becomes less appealing.

The simplicity and practicality of Manager is what brought many of us to it in the first place.

As for customer portals - I’d love to see that functinality finished and security addressed. Feels to have been abandoned.

Imo it is reasonable NG software assess price (development & maintenance cost) vs performance (clean program functionality) of any change, just as any other business should.

It is a bit harder for NG Software as the value of particular program feature varies with each users business processes, so overall value to Manager of a program feature varies with their target market.

A better approach would probably be to use Chromium or more specifically chromium/pdfium
