Draft flag for all documents

I propose the addition of a “draft” flag feature to all documents within Manager.io.

This enhancement would enable users to prepare documents such as salaries, invoices, expenses and many others in advance, while still being able to differentiate between work that has still some pending elements and work that has already been fully completed and should be now accounted.

Even for individual company users, interruptions during document creation are common occurrences. Whether it’s to address an urgent matter elsewhere or respond to a phone call, the need to temporarily pause document completion is frequent. A “draft” flag would be invaluable in such situations, allowing users to easily mark documents as incomplete and return to them later without losing progress.

Moreover, for larger accounting teams, the addition of a “draft” flag could introduce a simple yet effective form of double control.

Having the ability to mark documents as drafts would streamline all workflow processes, allowing users to organize and prioritize tasks more efficiently. Additionally, it would provide clarity by clearly indicating which documents are still in progress and which ones have been finalized.

Inclusion of draft documents in the summary is never necessary. But it will be nice to have a dedicated counter (other color/style) along with document count in the tabs.

Why not create custom field to indicate such a status? I’m reluctant to add built-in fields that are not really doing anything.

create custom field

Custom fields work well for most purposes, but they fall short when it comes to handling draft-flagged documents, as they should not be immediately accounted for.

I actually like the idea that staff could draft for example invoices before they would be effected. This would not be about custom fields because assume I draft an invoice it would currently show in P&L, but what if this needs some kind of approval before affecting that. This may relate to many ideas listed about authorizations, but such step when a business desires would be a great development.

Yes. In that case this topic is already covered here:

I know this is not quite what above means but I would like to see like a stamp of " Draft " kind of like a large water mark diagonally across reports if we want . Then I could email directly from manager instead of printing to PDF the opening and then doing a water mark then saving then emailing. Then when I print to PDF the real copy I delete the draft copy.
I have always had Custom fields with Draft sent , Invoice sent, return Done, Paid, final sent

By using merge tags in footers you can show the status using your custom field at the end of document (Like Paid in full Stamp). Or if you want it large and diagonally you can use Custom themes.

As custom themes will not be supported I am a bit reluctant. I already have a custom Invoice my logo is in the background right across the invoice page at top. I am hoping when lubos works on headers I will be able to do something similar. So can remove custom themes. No wait you can not do custom themes for reports anyway like P&L.

Invoice approvals or multi-level Authorization would be a nice option for the software - it is greatly appreciated by any user particularly those medium/large organizations that are reluctant to use the so called ERPs, or those currently using QuickBooks Online Advanced for its multi-level authorization feature though it lacks other features such as Multi-location stock managements. So, in my opinion, such functionalities would be a game changing improvement if @Lubos implements.
