Are there any updates on when dark mode might be a possibility? Last I saw was in Dec 2023. If I missed some, could someone direct me? I have trouble looking at the light screen after about an hour.
Thanks
A dark mode would in fact be nice, but it’s does not seem to be a priority at this point in time and hasn’t yet made it into ideas.
However, there’s been a lot of work behind the scenes to implement a dark mode but it was halted to look after more pressing implementations.
I’m going to place this in ideas so it gets remembered when its time comes.
Thank you
Is there a way to turn Manger into Dark mode? I mean the whole UI. Not themes of invoices etc.
No there isn’t yet. I moved your post to an existing topic in ideas. As new user please familiarize yourself with FAQ - Manager Forum, in this case:
- Search before you post. Chances are good you are not the first person with a similar question. If you cannot find what you need in the Guides, thousands of topics with tens of thousands of postings make it likely the answer to your question is already here on the Forum. I asked previously about dark mode but the reply was a simple “No”.
I have been using manager for years, but not having a dark mode feature is very annoying as the UI is mainly white. I can’t spend an extended time in front of the UI doing work.
Makes me consider using another program!
Developers, this is a simple upgrade but yet extremely important with a high priority!
I hope you can facilitate this simple request, as it is related to the health of the user’s well being!
The answer was not “…No…”, but “No there isn’t yet…” If you read the post quoted by @shahabb in earlier post in this topic you would have noticed that the developer said:
I also asked you kindly to familiarize yourself with FAQ - Manager Forum which explains why I moved your new topic under this existing topic that already was elevated into the ideas category and no longer uncategorized.
- Don’t cross-post the same question or comment in multiple topics.
Maybe you should. Considering that the post quoted was in December 2023 do not expect dark mode anytime soon as there are lots of other things that require attention.
This is simply not true. If it was it would not be half-way and implemented since December 2023.
That is questionable. The prevalence of light mode in accounting and many other applications such as Word processors and Spreadsheets is that:
Light mode reduces asthenopia (eye strain) by preventing excessive pupillary dilation, especially in bright environments. It minimizes frequent contrast shifts that can lead to visual discomfort and cephalalgia (headaches).
It enhances visual acuity by providing a high-contrast background that improves saccadic movement efficiency and reading comprehension. Unlike dark mode, it prevents halation, a phenomenon where light text appears to glow, causing blurred vision and difficulty focusing.
For individuals with astigmatism, light mode reduces photopic glare, making text easier to read. It also benefits older adults and those with presbyopia, as it supports better accommodation and focal stability.
By resembling printed text, light mode reduces cognitive load, preventing mental fatigue and digital eye strain (computer vision syndrome). When used with a circadian-friendly warm color filter, it minimizes melatonin suppression, reducing sleep disturbances.
Light mode is ideal for daytime use, extended reading, and individuals with refractive errors or accommodative dysfunctions. It supports ocular health and visual comfort, making it the preferred choice for prolonged screen exposure.
I right click on the business in the program and open it in Edge which has been set to dark mode and do what I need from there. It also makes it easier being able to open multiple tabs and switch using only the browser. But you do still need the program running in the background.
Probably not as good as a proper dark mode, but it works for me.
It looks much better though, even though it gives more of an inverted feel. I tried inverting the colors and I get similar results to your image. Of course it needs to be done properly. I even went as far as changing the colors in “inspect” , but requires some work.
The category tab only shows uncategorized, there are no other selections. Maybe you need to clarify. I’m pretty sure creating a dark mode is not that complicated if your are an experienced developer, other aspects of the program logic I would say can be much more challenging. And I’ve never heard anyone say I’d rather spend 6 hours looking at a white screen rather than a dark screen. Too much white light on the monitor strains the eyes. At-least when its pitch black the pixels are not highly active, and I’m only viewing important information like text and numbers.
In Edge go to edge://flags/#enable-force-dark
and you can pick from a variety of Dark Modes.
e.g.
gives you
They do not need to, see my explanation, the vast majority of users that spend long time on screens, except gamers use light mode. Just step into any office environment.
See earlier response:
In any case, I am not against asking or having an option for dark mode, but this is more an individual preference. In its absence you mentioned that you use Manager for years so either switch or be patient. I pointed out that this does not seem to be a priority by the Developer. Your point that it is for health reasons is mute and more an attempt to persuade the developer to make this happen quicker.
[Added based on post by @VACUUMDOG: In the meantime you should be able to use dark mode in a browser such as Edge]
Wow, this is a game changer. Not only for the program but the entire web browser. Manager looks good too with the exception of some funky characters due to shadows applied to the text. But this is good thanks!
Ok I see the categories section where its applied as a filter. It was not clear before because when I create a new topic, next to the type title I see an “uncategorized” tab, when I navigate I don’t see any categories to select.
That is because only developer and moderators can post in other categories. They can decide to move it to ideas, bugs, etc. based on the discussion. Once part of ideas it stays there until implemented or not. If implemented or no longer valid (same for bugs) it will be removed by the developer and a post regarding it will appear.
It actually started first as a feature in Chrome:
Google Chrome: chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark
Since then others that use the Chromium engine followed, where you can access the setting through their respective flags pages:
Microsoft Edge: edge://flags/#enable-force-dark
Brave: brave://flags/#enable-force-dark
Vivaldi: vivaldi://flags/#enable-force-dark
Opera: opera://flags/#enable-force-dark
Firefox doesn’t have an enable-force-dark
flag. However, you can force dark mode by:
Opening about:config
, search for layout.css.prefers-color-scheme.content-override
, and set it to 2
. Alternatively you can also install add-ons to enable dark mode such as UltimaDark (very fast) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ultimadark/ and Dark Reader (Open source, slower) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/.
This is another option for anyone who wants to use dark mode. Besides using Chromium’s experimental feature for dark mode for web content, users can also install the Dark Reader extension for Chrome. You can google it and search “Dark Reader Extension”.
This is the example:
This is the extension screen:
With this extension, we can set the dark mode only for a certain URL. If you don’t want all websites to use dark mode or because the conversion makes the content of other websites unreadable, you can set it only for the Manager URL.
For the Manager Desktop user, you can set http://localhost:55667 or http://127.0.0.1:55667 in the Site List tab of the extension, let the Manager App open in the background, and open your Manager URL in the browser.
For cloud and server edition users, you can set the URL of your Manager in the Site List tab of the extension, and open your Manager URL in the browser.
Every page of the Manager will be converted and we can also set the brightness and contrast level. I use the default filter in the filter tab, but in the More tab, I use “Filter+” so everything is converted including the background and fonts. Like for example the Invoice View page.
But when you print the Invoice, everything will be back to normal.
If you have custom themes and set an image as the background of the view page, the conversion will not change the image color. The conversion will only work on any page with CSS color.
I hope this will help users who want to use the dark mode in Manager.
Please see my post above yours regarding:
Oh yeah, you already say it. Sorry, I didn’t read your comment entirely. But, nevermind I gave also the screenshot and example to set it, so it adds up to your explanation @eko.
