Customizing chart of accounts (to Belgium requirements)

Hello everyone!

As a start: I am brand new to Manager and I like the look and feel very much. Can’t wait to start using it.

My girlfriend has just started her own business and I have offered to help out with the administration part. I have some knowledge of accounting but like said before new to Manager. Since we live in Belgium I would like to set up Manager to meet the Belgium standards in terms of chart of accounts. I have already read that an automatic upload of the Belgian chart of accounts is not possible, but I do not mind to spend time to manually do this.

Now to my question: I think I understand how to add the Belgian accounts, but what do I do with the already default accounts. Can I just delete them? Or will this cause problems, since I read somewhere on this forum that some accounts are ‘control accounts’ and deleting is not possible, or will casue problems.

Can someone please offer some help with customizing the chart of accounts to my (Belgian) needs? Thanks a lot in advance!!

you may try reading the guides section first.
also this guide on building a chart of accounts Build a chart of accounts | Manager

its better to create a test business and get around familiarizing things first before starting with your actual business data.

you will find most answers in the guides and you can also search the forum for specific topics as most have been discussed in detail. still if you do not find what you need, then you can post a specific question and the users will help you.

Indeed, read the guides!

And maybe you want to read this:

Well, enough homework I guess… :grinning:

Thanks both of you.

I will indeed dive in the guides and just start implementing in a dummy company first. I just want(ed) to make sure also I am not on a mission impossible and what I want is doable, so I won’t waste my time

No, but just position them as you require in your chart of accounts.
It is not as though they are excess or not required accounts, you would have to replace them with another account if they were delete able.

Also note, default accounts can be renamed, so you are not locked into those titles.
