Customer User Role

I suspest this idea is not new, but …

For Customer Portal security, any thoughts to an additional user type:

i.e. Role = Customer

Once business selected one additional select to link to customer.

Customer Role users would then have access only to customer portal for the linked customer in the specified business. The current open URL for customer portals makes this potentially very useful function pretty much unusable. A customer user role would allow security/login.

While I am not entirely against more security, however, I don’t agree to this part:

Customer portals are much more secure than emails – the other common alternative.

While a user and password could arguably offer a bit more security, the long cryptic link offers way more security if not exposed to the public.

I honestly couldn’t pitch the idea of a customer portal without a password to my customers. There is an (reasonably valid)) expectation.
