You can as instructed elsewhere use 2-factor authentication with the SMTP server see your reply at:

I received a notice from Microsoft regarding not being able to use third party aps etc that don’t use two factor authentication and am wondering if there is a workaround please? I don’t really want to have to change my email addesss. Thanks.

You need to setup the secret password with Microsoft and use that in stead of your normal email password.
