Can't select fixed asset on transaction line item

Although I have other fixed assets I am not able to add another. Editing an uncategorized transaction in a cash account the fixed asset field reports “No matches found”. This happened just after successfully entering a new fixed asset and I can’t figure out why. I am pretty sure I entered all of the prelimiary info. correctly so I don’t know where else to look. Of course, in addition, I cannot add an amount to any previously created fixed asset as there are suddenly no matches to any fixed asset. Any help appreciated.

You need to show

  1. Edition (Desktop, Cloud, Server) and version of Manager you are using
  2. OS and version
  3. List of assets in Fixed Assets tab
  4. Edit screen of attempt to add fixed assets

In addition to @Joe91 request please also show (screenshots) the Fixed asset control accounts in settings and one of the created fixed assets edit screens from the fixed assets tab…

Love to, but I searched the forum for “add screenshot to post” but got no hits. Are PDF’s ok, and how?

To add screenshots image to a post

  1. Use a screenshot program on your computer to screenshot a page in Manager of concern
  2. Use a paint program on your computer to crop the image to the Manager window and redact information or highlight parts as required
  3. In Manager forum use the upload button (an up arrow at the bottom right corner) to upload the image into your post

Use this button highlighted in yellow:

Hope this is right, if not I will try again

You need to show all of the screen not just the part which you feel is relevent

The screenshots you provided don’t add up.

Let’s get back to the start. Currently you have these fixed assets:

Let’s pick one asset out the whole bunch and let’s do the following:

  1. See the edit screen of that particular fixed asset. Let’s call that (X)

  2. From the previous edit screen, let’s take the control account that appears and see its edit screen as well. Let’s call that (A)

  3. Try to post something to it and get the screenshot. Select (A) for account and (X) for fixed assets and tell us what happens.

@rungek, I suspect you have not assigned your fixed assets to control accounts correctly.

Your control account structure and use also looks suspicious. If you have (or intend to have) all your fixed assets assigned to custom control accounts, such as House, you should not also have the Fixed assets, at cost account. The purchase of the house would be assigned to House, not Fixed assets, at cost.

Your title is also misleading. It isn’t that you can’t add fixed assets. What you have illustrated is that you cannot select fixed assets for transaction line items. I have edited the title.

First off, thanks to all for your indulgence in trying to help.
Second, how do I say I’m an idiot without admitting I’m an idiot? I guess I can’t so …

I was trying to post to account “50 - Fixed assets at cost” when I should have been using “700 - Furniture & Equipment”. When I used the correct account everything was fine.

Special thanks to Ealfardan for getting me on the right track.

Although my issue has been resolved I feel compelled to respond to this entry. Please see the following from the guide:

You will note that the “fixed assets at cost” account CANNOT be disabled so I am unclear what Tut is suggesting.

Please read @Tut’s response again. You will notice that you either use Control Accounts as in:

or use Fixed Assets, at cost.

The Fixed Assets, at cost account is automatically generated but once you decide to create more control accounts you should not use the automatic one.

That’s true.

It would it be nice though if unused control accounts didn’t appear in the dropdowns.

Thanks for clearing that up.
