Wrong sales tax amount on report

I just paid our first invoice with Manager. Our state has a flat 7% sales tax rate. If was figured out correctly on the invoice. I received the payment using the invoice number but when I ran a sales tax transaction report to see how this all works it shows the wrong amount of sales tax. The invoice was for $15.00 and the correct sales tax amount is .98 .
But the report showed the tax amount to be $7.00. What did I do wrong?

It appears that you have created a custom tax code. In that code you have indicated $7 instead of 7%. Review your tax code, probably you have ticked a “flat tax” tick box, untick it and see what happens.

Post screen shots of your tax code entry screen and the transactions involved. There is much more to such a situation that you have mentioned so far.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I did check the flat tax box. I thought that since Illinois has a flat tax for sales tax it meant that I should check that box. I un-checked the box and everything is perfect now. Thank you again!!

Thank you for your reply. I checked the flat tax box in addition to creating the custom tax. I guess I find it a little confusing since where I live we have a flat tax for sales. When I unchecked the box everything is running smoothly now. Thank you again!

The terminology may have confused you. “Flat rate” in Manager means a constant amount. In some jurisdictions, there are taxes (like government fees) that do not vary with the amount of the transaction. Not common in the USA.
