Streamlining Control Accounts and Custom Fields

The viewing, creation, update of Control Accounts and Custom Fields still have some room for improvement.

Namely, when creating custom fields for, say Debit Notes, you go to settings > custom fields, scroll down to debit notes, and then do your thing with the custom field and press update or create. This takes you back to the beginning of the custom fields page where you have to again scroll down to find debit notes once again – which could take a while depending on how many custom fields you have.

The same scenario happens with Control Accounts.

What if, instead of the current view, we get a table view (with search bar) that displays something like this for custom fields

Object Custom Fields
Business Details 3
Bank Account 0

Which you can then drill down to get this table view (with search bar and batch operations)

Custom Field Type Size Display as a column Show on printed documents
Edit Some Field Drop-down Medium Yes No
Edit Another Field Number Small No Yes
Edit

That would have the following advantages:

  • More familiar and intuitive layout
  • More details are viewable on the surface
  • Batch operations
  • If you’re done editing something, no need to scroll down to get back to where you’ve been.

Also for Line Item Custom Fields… they cannot be accessed in reporting, neither standard reports, nor Custom Reports…even if you export (“Batch Update”) to EXCEL, you get…

System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2[System.Guid,System.String]

This has been an issue for some time, and solutions indicated, but nothing yet.
