Special/Account Specific Custom Fields

@lubos can we have account specific custom fields? Like if i want to place a custom field at an inventory Item “A” then whenever that item is selected on any transaction that custom field appear right next to it.
Use case: let say If we want to track color of some inventory items, for some maybe weight then defining fix custom fields on Sales, Purchase forms and all isnt an efficient way. If we want to specify different drop down for different items so specifying on that individual item would be great.

Also if a custom field is placed at inventory on hand then it should appear for every item let say “Serial No custom field”.
Similar could be implemented for an indivdual Customer account(or whole account receivable like tracking deposits etc)/ special accounts/capital accounts (capital subaccounts wont be needed after this) etc.
As manager doesnt support creating subledgers/accounts, this would solve sub accounts issue when combined with some advance reporting which can track opening balances where that particular custom field is selected and may solve some tax reporting issues.

I don’t think that’s the direction I want to go but I think I should allow users to specify which custom fields on line items they want to enter so not all are visible automatically.

Not sure what you mean by this. Special Accounts tab is how custom subledgers can be created.

That would also work as long as there is an option to define different drop downs (so they appear on transaction lines to select from) for each item as different products can have different attributes like for Item A i would want 3 options different than 3 options defined for Item B.
One use case would be if we want to add custom field Delivery Address for Customer with more than 1 delivery address then on transactions we could select out of those.

I actually meant the way you are handling Capital account sub-accounts (which i think are currently just like Custom fields but only appears when capital account is selected on lines). Incase there were no capital accounts subaccounts the option was to use Dropdown custom field with three options, (Drawings, Share of profit, funds contributed) with placement at every transaction form as these capital account are rarely used so having a custom field placed all the time at all forms would create a mess . This could also be the requirement of other accounts not just Capital accounts so this method i suggested could solve that and user can define multiple types of sub-accounts anywhere.
This is just my suggestion i dont know there may be many complications in implementing it.

I’m planning to improve the forms so you can choose which custom fields are visible for data entry. Then we can see how that can be built upon. It would be too early for me to commit to any solution now.
