Setting up an alert on an inactive cash account

Hi everyone,
Is it not possible to create an alert when you want to copy paste a transaction from an account that has been inactivated ?

The problem is often when you want to copy old past transactions sometimes with accounts that no longer exist, the message can be for example, “the selected cash account is not active”

Making an account “inactive” in Manager does not completely restrict the use of that account. It only means it won’t show up in the drop-down menus when you choose accounts for transactions.
The best way to achieve this is the introduction of a General Ledger Accounts permission management feature.

There are a couple of arguments against your suggestion, @CMAKITA:

  • As @Abeiku already wrote, no cash or bank account ever truly ceases to exist in your accounting records once it has been used. You might not use it any longer. And a bank account might have been closed at the financial institution. But Manager is a perpetual accounting system, and your current position cannot be determined without the records of transactions that were made in inactive accounts. So the Inactive checkbox is only a convenience that removes the account from dropdown menus and to the bottom of the tab listing.
  • It is common to copy or clone older transactions for (not from) dates in the past. In other words, you might have closed an account and made it inactive today. But tomorrow you want to catch up on entering the month’s financial transactions, and the easiest way to do that might be to clone or copy a transaction. You would not want to restrict the selection of a cash or bank account if it was active on the date for which you want to enter the transaction.

I understand you might find such a feature desirable. But other users with different accounting habits could find it disabling or highly frustrating. Even if the ability to bypass the alert were included, it could still be very frustrating for users with high transaction volumes.
