Removing backup data files

I have been using desktop version of Manager for over a year, doing daily backup of the data file.

To clean up the drive I would like to delete all but the most recent backup. It looks to me as if the backup file is a full backup of all the data, not just an incremental change. Is this correct?

Is it safe to erase all the previous backups except the most recent one?

Yes, it is safe. A backup file stores all your transactions, defined reports, customers, suppliers, etc. for a single business. If you have multiple businesses, each will be self-contained within its own backup file. Even reports from previous accounting periods can be generated from the backup.
