I give gifts with a lot of my orders, Sometimes from inventory, sometimes not.
I am confused about:
a) how to record the gifts given from the inventory?
b) the gifts not from the inventory, should I still add them to the inventory and record it the same way a) is recorded?

just select the inventory item in the invoice and do not enter any value for it.
the item need not be in inventory. you can simply type the item name in the invoice with zero value
but if you want to track later what items where given, you should create the item as an inventory.
So I have decided to add the item to my inventory, because I want to track what Ive given.
Is it possible to hide it from the printed invoice?
I want to add the gift to the customers invoice so I can personally track, but I dont want them seeing it in the invoice.
you cannot hide it.
maybe you can just edit the description of the item in the invoice line to something more subtle, like Complimentary Gift. I am sure no customer would mind that as long as the value for it is zero.
