Optional Equity Breakdown in Balance Sheet Presentation

Hi everyone,

I would like to suggest an optional enhancement for the Balance Sheet presentation in Manager.io

Currently, the equity section presents Retained Earnings as a single combined balance. It might be beneficial to introduce an optional display format that separates equity into:

  • Previous Years Retained Earnings

  • Current Year Earnings

This type of presentation is commonly used in many accounting systems because it provides a clearer and more immediate understanding of:

  • accumulated profits from prior years, and

  • the current period’s financial performance

directly from the Balance Sheet itself.

Although the Statement of Changes in Equity already explains movements in retained earnings in detail, users often rely on the Balance Sheet as the primary high-level financial snapshot. Having this separation visible there could improve readability and speed up financial analysis without needing to open additional reports.

From a reporting perspective, the “Current Year Earnings” amount could naturally follow the Balance Sheet date selection (“As At” date), representing accumulated profit or loss up to that reporting date.

This could work well as:

  • an optional presentation setting, or

  • an alternative Balance Sheet layout preference

while still keeping the current structure unchanged for users who prefer the existing format.

Thank you.
