No clue to an inventory item qty become zero or negative

Hello,
Before Manager updates, we could see an inventory qty is zero or negative. This was possible when a production order would show insufficient quantity. Then, we would know which inventory item is out of stock.

But, now, the production order wouldn’t show insufficient quantity even if the bill of material is zero (not available). So, no way to know the item is out of stocks.

Is there any work around to see while in the process of working in Manager?

Hello, will someone will help with my question?

I’d like to know this as well since I produce items that includes over 60 items. Checking inventory every time I build something to see where a problem might be is cumbersome.

Before, when doing production order, we could know while on the go that an item is short as the production order would show insufficient quantity. It was easy to trace the inventory item that was unavailable. Now, how to find because production order no longer displayed insufficient quantity.

@lubos Is there any reason for discontinuing display of insufficient qty when any inventory item is not available? Is there a work around?

@sonicgroup the new implementation of inventory doesn’t require you to “own” inventory quantity before making production order.

I understand some businesses were relying on this feature to see which items are out of stock but there is better way now.

You can set up on inventory items Reorder Point which is minimal quantity you desire to maintain in inventory. Then under Inventory Items tab, there is Qty to order column which shows how much quantity should be ordered across all inventory items.

This is generic approach even for businesses not using production orders.

The reason why this works better is because when you order new quantity from supplier, under old approach you would still have Insufficient quantity in production orders (so you are at risk of double-ordering). New approach solves this because Qty to order is decreased (or cleared) by merely issuing new purchase order so you would not accidentally double order.

@lubos thanks. The beauty of this FORUM is all your issues get addressed. My special appreciation to @lubos

Even, if we set up “Qty to recorder”, my question is supposing the item get exhausted (until new stock arrives) then how would the production order would report (display)? I mean wouldn’t it still not show qty as insufficient?

Your prompt response will help our understanding, thanks.

@lubos, why not make reorder point default to zero, meaning that its always set and the user can opt out by uncheckung the box?

Thanks for your response.

But my question is, how the production order will report if the materials is already zero. Will it show an alert as "insufficient quantity " like before. Or just like now - no alert.

Good idea :+1:.

@lubos Possibly, this way, may be you let the production order show alert as insufficient quantity
