Inventory recount discrepancy - how to record?

Hello,

How do I account for discrepancies in inventory? To illustrate, I have the following quantites recorded in manager:
Widget A: 4 units
Widget B: 3 units

The warehouse manager just did a physical stock count, and discovered that the quantities are actually:
Widget A: 5 units
Widget B: 2 units

We don’t know if somebody shipped in error (there have been no complaints) and the received inventory from the suppliers should have been correct.

Since the fact is that the quantity in the warehouse now is:
Widget A: 5 units
Widget B: 2 units

And not:
Widget A: 4 units
Widget B: 3 units

I would like to update my stock counts. How can I do this? Journal entries don’t have fields for inventory items. Production order seems wrong to use. Are there any guides that cover this scenario? If not, what would be the most straight forward way to correct the inventory discrepancy?

Read the Guides about writing on and writing off inventory.

Thanks, I just found the guides for writing on/off inventory.
