How do I customise manager to show only current years total

How do I customise manager to show new transactions from scratch for the new year only except for those accounts with balances?
I would love to be able to see the total amounts of income and expenses for the current year only and carry over only those accounts with balances so that I do not start fresh with the current customers who owe outstanding amounts.
How do I do that? Currently manager is showing a total income and expense for approximately 3 years combined and i would like to change that by seperating each year beginning with 2018.
