Do you really mean a dividend payment, as in a distribution to shareholders? Or do you mean the receipt of a dividend from securities you own? Those are very different things. Please do not make us guess about the circumstances of your question. Provide detailed information.

@Muhamad_Almahdy’s response is incomplete. The nature of the Dividends account is not specified. And transferring a credit in Retained earnings to any other account by journal entry does not mean you have paid or distributed a dividend. A payment transaction would be required for that.
@1286_1, your post #3 does not explain the circumstances as I asked you to do in post #4. I was serious. You are asking other forum members to guess. Why would they, if you are not willing to share information?
