Just a quick one here. Please is it possible to delete history entry (audit trail) apart from purging it by not adding it to backup?
No there isn’t.
Ok
Thank you.
Ability to delete history would be trivial to implement however the guiding principle here is that you should be able to “undo” anything that you do in Manager.
But deleting history cannot be undone. So this is not implemented on purpose.
The only way to delete history is to make a copy (backup) of existing database that will exclude history.
We’ve had the pleasure of using Manager desktop version since 2018, to record the transactions for a non-profit on my Windows 11 PC. It is a fantastic accounting tool. We find the simplest way to handle the accounting is to create a new business each year to run from Jan 01 to Dec 31. In previous versions of Manager there was always a way to create a new business by saving a copy of the business without the history & then importing the copy. We would then use batch delete to remove all the transactions, so we could start fresh in the new year. This way, all the account structures, regular & custom reports. etc. are copied over & we only have to update them to the new year dates. This has saved us so much time over recreating the business from scratch each year. I was last able to do this in late 2024. I’ve looked through the forum & user guides to find help with importing a copy without the history, but can’t find a solution. I recently updated to version 25.12.6.3147. We are very hopeful there is a solution. Please advise what we can do to accomplish this.
Why do you create a new business each year?
This is not necessary at all
What are the advantages of doing this?
I have had issues with large data files in the past, similar to what just occured in the recent post “Manager crash, unable to cope with large GL report”. One of the reasons we moved away from Simply Accounting in our non-profit was because it was so restrictive & data files became gargantuan. Manager was an awesome breath of fresh air, allowing us a great deal of latitude in how we use it, tailoring it to our individual needs. I understand the need for retaining the history file with the business, but can the case not be made that when importing an existing business as a template for the new business, one doesn’t want the history file from the old business to come into the new blank business? Could there be a way to remove that unneeded history from the new empty business, with a batch delete, at the time it is created? Thanks for your help.
