Is there a way to automatically create unique id for every new customer or to access existing if it’s available? At the moment it seems that I can create infinite amount of identical customers.

There is no automatic ID creation for customers. There is also no autofill function for customers. So best practice is to scan or search the Customers tab before creating a new customer.
One reason for this is that you might want otherwise-identical customers with different addresses or currencies. In other words, those customers might actually be the same organization.
