Trying to backup a large file around 14gb but unfortunately download does not complete, it saves the backup.htm separated with the crw file.
Hello @Paulo-Others_Arcegon,
Welcome to the forum.
I have moved your post into it’s own topic since it wasn’t related to the other topic.
Here your issue should get its due attention.
I can only assume that you are talking about Cloud edition, because otherwise, it wouldn’t make sense to download a backup.
The problem appears that the backup file is temporary and it doesn’t persist long enough to for an arbitrarily large file size. The download speed variability just doesn’t help it either.
I suppose direct access to download backup files fron Cloud portal like before could solve the issue.
Added to bugs
Is there any step by step procedure on this one. And what is the limit file size for the backup to be successfully downloaded.
Also if there is a way I can still download those large files because upon looking the features, there are no other way to atleast cherry pick the files that I want to download/backup for batching
@Ealfardan @lubos
Hello @Paulo-Others_Arcegon,
Sure, take a backup without attachments. That will reduce the size of your business file drastically.
I suggest one solution here is to have a batch export, or batch backup, where in users can cherry pick the files or attachements, then have feature to delete and selective deletion
Continuing the discussion from Cannot download large backup:
@Ealfardan @lubos I hope this feature will be added asap. Backup still fails.
back.htm is not compressing with the crwdownload file.
@lubos @Ealfardan any updates on this one, this is critical because I cant backup our files.
Please do not double post, your topic is already in the bugs category. Your screenshot is interesting and to determine what you actually do and what could be caused by Manager there are still several basic points that need clarification before this can be treated as a “large backup” bug.
-
Which edition are you using?
In post #2, @Ealfardan wrote: “I can only assume that you are talking about Cloud edition.” That was an assumption, and you have never confirmed whether you are using Desktop, Server or Cloud Edition, and which Operating system. Please also state your Manager version and Operating System version like Windows 11, macOS 26.6.2 (Tahoe) or for Linux the distribution and version like Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS. -
What exactly is the 14 GB?
In post #1 you referred to “a large file around 14gb”. Is 14 GB the size of one individual Manager business, or are you referring to the total size of several businesses or files? -
Are you backing up one individual business?
In posts #4 and #7 you refer to “cherry pick the files”, “batch backup” and selecting files or attachments. Manager backups are made per business. If you have several businesses, each business is backed up separately. -
What happens when attachments are excluded?
In post #5, @Ealfardan suggested making a backup without attachments. In post #8 you only said “Backup still fails.” Please state the size of that particular business and the resulting or expected backup size with Attachments, Emails and History excluded. -
Is the backup creation failing, or is the download failing?
This distinction is still unclear. Does Manager fail before producing the backup, or is the backup generated and the subsequent download then interrupted? -
What do you mean by
backup.htm“not compressing with the crdownload file”?
You referred to this in posts #1 and #8. These are not two parts that need to be combined or compressed. A.crdownloadfile is simply an incomplete Chromium/Chrome download. Please show what the Downloads page reports when the download fails, including any error message. -
What exactly is the file shown as
backupin your latest screenshot?
Please show the complete filename, including its extension, together with the file type and size. Please also show the size of the.crdownloadfile.
Until these questions are answered, we do not actually know whether this is a 14 GB Manager backup limitation, a download failure, or a misunderstanding of what is being backed up and what the downloaded files represent.
After more in-depth review of this discussion, I have moved this topic out of the Bugs category for now. This does not mean there cannot be a bug, but at present there is insufficient information to establish one.
Your latest screenshot as mentioned in my previous post actually raises further questions. Manager’s Backup function automatically assigns the backup the name of the individual business with a date stamp added. The screenshot instead shows a file simply named backup, alongside Unconfirmed 732319.crdownload. A .crdownload file only shows that a Chromium-based download has not completed; it does not tell us what was being downloaded, its intended size, or why it failed. And because Manager Desktop itself uses Chromium, this screenshot also does not establish which Manager edition is being used.
More importantly, a file displayed simply as backup is not the normal default filename produced by Manager’s Backup function. We therefore first need to establish whether the files shown actually resulted from using Manager’s Backup button in an individual business.
In addition to the questions already asked in my former post above, please clarify:
- What is the complete filename, including extension, of the file shown as
backup, and what is its size? - What is the size of the
.crdownloadfile? - Exactly which button or menu option in Manager did you use immediately before these files appeared?
- What does the Chromium/Chrome Downloads page show for the failed download, including any error message?
Once we can establish that Manager’s normal Business Backup function is being used and reproduce a failure attributable to Manager, the topic can be moved back to Bugs.

Answer: We are using the cloud edition, Windows(26.9.1.0)
What exactly is the 14 GB?
In post #1 you referred to “a large file around 14gb”. Is 14 GB the size of one individual Manager business, or are you referring to the total size of several businesses or files?
Answer: This is the backup file for a business, 14gb if i tick with attachment, and around 11gb if none is tick
Are you backing up one individual business?
In posts #4 and #7 you refer to “cherry pick the files”, “batch backup” and selecting files or attachments. Manager backups are made per business. If you have several businesses, each business is backed up separately.
Answer: This is just for one business, I just suggested if I could cherry pick the attachments so that I can just do a batch downloading/backup.
What happens when attachments are excluded?
In post #5, @Ealfardan suggested making a backup without attachments. In post #8 you only said “Backup still fails.” Please state the size of that particular business and the resulting or expected backup size with Attachments, Emails and History excluded.
Answer: It still downloading the backup with the size around 11gb, but it doesn’t compile correctly. It produce backup.htm and the crdownload file
Is the backup creation failing, or is the download failing?
This distinction is still unclear. Does Manager fail before producing the backup, or is the backup generated and the subsequent download then interrupted?
Answer: the backup generated and the subsequent download then interrupted, but take note, my internet connection is stable.

You referred to this in posts #1 and #8. These are not two parts that need to be combined or compressed. A .crdownload file is simply an incomplete Chromium/Chrome download. Please show what the Downloads page reports when the download fails, including any error message.
Answer: Yes, attaching my downloads on this one
What exactly is the file shown as backup in your latest screenshot?
Please show the complete filename, including its extension, together with the file type and size. Please also show the size of the .crdownload file.
Answer: Sure, its just same test file the one with 14gb or 11gb, attaching the crdownload properties
Please clarify, do you really mean Cloud edition? I ask because you also mention Windows, but Cloud is not having any preference for that.
In addition show a screenshot of how you actually are making the backup such as screenshot below.
If Manager had told Chrome that the download was, say, test(2026-09-08).manager, I would expect Chrome’s download entry to identify it by that filename even though the file on disk was still temporarily an Unconfirmed ....crdownload.
What is the complete filename, including extension, of the file shown as backup, and what is its size?
Answer:Here is the properties of the backup.htm file
What is the size of the .crdownload file?
Answer: Sharing the properties of the .crdownload file
Exactly which button or menu option in Manager did you use immediately before these files appeared?
Answer: I just click the backup button inside the business, then i didnt tick any of the 2 options
attachements and timestamp
What does the Chromium/Chrome Downloads page show for the failed download, including any error message?
Answer: No error message it just said Done, then the .manager file will be converted to backup.htm and the crdownload file
Sorry i thought you are asking my OS,
To clarify ****.sin.manager.cloud is my website, I just blurred ours.
This should be the scenario, but in my end it will prompt Done, but upon checking it is separated in to 2 files a backup.htm and the .crdownload, [moderator deleted soliciting]. if Not is a screen record would be enough?
Create a test business call it different from my example. Show the screenshots similar to the ones I showed you and maybe also the result in downloads folder for it.
Yes, please record the complete process from before you start the backup until the failure is visible, including:
- The Manager screen showing the business and Backup page.
- The moment you click Backup.
- Any filename or Save As prompt that appears. This is particularly important because Manager should normally propose a filename based on the business name, such as
Business name (date).manager.tar. - The point where Manager reports “Done”.
- Chrome’s Downloads page immediately afterwards.
- The Downloads folder showing
backup.htmand the.crdownloadfile. - The Properties/details of both files, including their complete filenames and sizes.
Please do not rename, move or otherwise alter either file before making the recording.
