Is it possible to attach note item numbers to BS and P&L accounts so that an appendix of notes can be prepared. Even better would be to have notes attached to any group/line item that can be printed as a note sheet to the BS or P&L?

The balance sheet and P&L statement both have a Footer field meant for notes. This field will accept HTML. But you cannot annotate the report with note numbers or attach notes to individual line items in the report. However, you could number notes in the Footer field, generate a PDF of the report, and mark up the document by inserting note numbers in your PDF viewer.
