Feature Request:
Before committing currency values into relevant fields (a journal entry in this case), trim whitespace characters (GIGO).
What I was doing:
- Creating a new account (OK)
- Copied balance of old account from Summary screen to clipboard (* this is important later)
- Make a new Journal Entry to move the entire balance of old account to new account:
- Set narration field (OK)
- Selected CR account (OK)
- Selected DR account (OK)
- Set DR/CR values (showed up visually OK)
- Journal entry “draft” balanced (no “out of balance” notice)
- Click “Create” (OK)
What happened:
The journal entry was created, but with no actual DR/CR of either account resulted.
What I troubleshot:
- I tried editing the journal entry by adding the DR/CR values again and updating. No change.
- I pasted the value of my clipboard (from step 2) into a text editor. A ‘tab’ whitespace char was clearly present.
- I updated the journal entry and carefully copy/pasted the same value as before without the ‘tab’ char. Success.
Edit:
P.S. - my usual appreciation for the great software. This is one of very few bugs I’ve ever encountered. Great work!
