I have set up a Ute loan under Liabilities which has a balance. I would like to show the amount of payments that came off the loan and the balnce left to pay in the balance sheet
A balance sheet never shows transaction history. But if you debit the loan account for the amount of principal paid when making a payment, the balance of the account will show the balance remaining on the loan. If you do not have a payment schedule or statement which breaks this down, you can generate one from standard interest/principal/repayment formulas. You will need to split the payment between the loan liability account and an interest expense account.
