The topics before have addressed several times that most people who use manager.io prefer to see numbers instead of charts.
However, since manager is expanding, it would be great to see us evolve into charts (Optionally).
Instead of it being the main dashboard default, someone (manager user) would be able to choose if they want to use the dashboard or just raw data. This opens new opportunities for
Content creators,
People teaching manager to non-accountants.
Using summary page as a summary report maybe only for presentation etc.
Also we could think about later on introducing the graphs to report.
Note: Because it is such a tedious job for developers and considering people have so many different views and preference when it comes to dashboards colors and similar, I would suggest only the feature to create dashboard to be available and someone can create the own dashboard and apply their own colors and styling. (Similar or close to how we do with themes now)
Eager to know what other users think of this idea…
@eko@lubos all i am saying is if people want it, the software should have an option where someone can use it. Yes the software is functional, but that is only engineering thinking. As the engineer or in this case “developer” its tempting to just think about what’s functional, but for users the experience is different. Its not only about functions, but how the software makes them feel. This is why Manager is one of the most functional, but yet simple invoicing software out there have more buzz than it. (softwares made by people who dont even know accounting just put a good dashboard people run to it).
I am not saying this to say we need to have millions of users because of dashboards, just giving the perspective of most users. I as an IT person, obviously understand where the developers are coming from, but as a user i have to agree, that maybe its about time we start thinking of introducing Dashboards to managers. It’s just too blunt.
That being said i love @lubos perspective of forcing the user to see the numbers and correct where there are issues, i think the Raw summary page is the reason why poeple love manager. Maybe we could consider doing a dual page, where numbers and dashboards appear in the same page.
