I see that there’s an extension section in the manager desktop settings.
Can someone explain to me how it works? Is it a coding environment?

It is an undocumented feature to run javascripts in specific tabs in Manager. It was added as part of the localizations to create country specific reports.
Extensions is still its early stages of development.
