Thank you @eko. Yes, I have tried the suggested solution and it works. Out of curiousity, I have also tried the AppImage on various distros (from Debian to Fedora to RHL and a number of derivatives) and it fails on almost all with just a one or two exeptions. This just to let you know that it is not an isolated issue (confined to Fedora) but seems to be a general issue. So whoever else encounters this problem is well advised to use the server version as a workaround.
