Is it possible to retrieve total cost of every inventory kit?
You can obtain a list of your kit sales prices by copying the Inventory Kits page in Settings.
But cost information does not exist, because inventory kits themselves are not held in inventory. Nor are they ever purchased as kits. So no cost can be established until they are actually sold. At that point, the current average costs of all components of the kit are added together to determine the cost of the kit.
To state this a different way, average costs are determined from purchase history. And inventory kits have none.
Thanks @Tut
Where can I see the cost of inventory kits after selling them?
Drill down on the Inventory - cost account from the Summary page. You will see a separate transaction for each component of the kit. That is what I meant when I wrote βthe current average costs of all components of the kit are added together to determine the cost of the kit.β
In all your transactions involving inventory kits, it is important to remember that kits are just shortcuts for conveniently selling individual inventory items together that would normally be sold by themselves. Manager handles the cost of each component separately. Only in the income account is the kit shown as as a single entry.
@tut got it. It would be very nice if we would see that total cost of all the components at one place. Anyways I have to find some way to total the cost of all those individual components after copying them to a spreadsheet.
Thank you.
Understand that the drill-down will only tell you what the cost was on specific, past transactions. It will not tell you what you cost would be if you sold the kit again. For that, you would need to sum the current average cost of inventory items making up the kit.
Thank you.
