Currently its based on value of items. The more valuable an item is the more freight will be allocated to it.
As for point 2 it makes sense in some cases where volume of all items is almost same but what if you have 1000 smaller items and and 1 item with volume 5 times that of 1000 smaller items?
The correct method will be to have volume and weight defined for each Inventory item. Then freight-in with option to either make allocation based on weight or volume.
But tbh that would be too much. Every user would want it their way like in my case i might need Freight-out on the Sales invoices but that would be limited to my case only. So, i think manual allocation would be fine in cases like these.
Or both. For example DHL does both for international packages. The value of the item should be related to a possible insurance charge, so value may still also be included.
That would be helpful. We often have an item that is not at all the most expensive item on a PO but it far heavier than the more expensive item(s). Just using quantity or value doesn’t really correctly allocate shipping.
Thanks.
I make use of a courier company to get my products out. If something like this can be added to the system in freight or inventory [(dimensions length cm x height cm x width cm) x weight kg)].
Couriers charge either by weight or by volumetric, this means that even if you enter the size and the weight of an item the cost of the freight or shipment will either be on the weight or volumetric, it depends on the larger part.
