Would it be possible to avail an upload otpions for transactions in journals. this means the user would be given an option to specify which account to credit and debit along with other needed details.

Are you talking about importing journal entries and then modifying them manually?
Have you tried batch create in the journal entry tab.
You will need to first look at the format of your existing entries via batch update to understand the create format
