Stopping my active participation in the Forum

Monday 10 March 2025 will signal my end of actively engaging with this Forum. As a user and recently moderator I spent far too much of my time on this rather than on the businesses I support. I learned a lot.

One of the reasons why I decided to stop is the numerous repetitions about the same issues. Users not reading the FAQ - Manager Forum not using Guides or Searching the Forum. It has become far too repetitive rather than really dealing with new things.

I will be a passive user like most here, except when I face an issue, I will report it and hope that others than come up with the answers. If anything I may enjoy some reference to Read the Guides, Search the Forum, Provide details about Edition, Operating System, and Manager version, Be specific, illustrate the issue where possible with screenshots, etc.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to learn while helping. I am now tired of it and wish you all the best.

Thank you for your work!

I must be one who cost you time by asking questions that were easily answered. If so, I apologize. But you really helped me.

To my defense, I am one to first read documentation and do tutorials, if available, before asking on a forum. Before Manager, I used Gnucash, which is much more complex to use. I learned it by myself and never asked one question.

But Manager had me stumped. I love the program but documentation is a disaster. I never found my way.

There is obsolete documentation, there is documentation with links that don’t work, there is incomplete documentation. Plus that, while on the whole very good, in some areas the UI confuses me and makes me think that things won’t work, and almost makes me give up.

I am sure the answer to some if my questions is buried somewhere but I have given up looking. I know how much work goes in good documentation and I blame nobody, but for me it just doesn’t work.

I repeat that I love the program and I realize the enormous amount of work and care that goes in its development and maintenance.

Good quality software always comes before documentation. And Manager is good. But for me, without this forum, and your help in particular, I would have given up and kept using Gnucash. I am now glad that I did not do that, and I thank you for that.

You will be missed. Thanks.

Your approach is both wise and generous.
Thank you for the time and effort you have contributed.

While that documentation was excellent, NG software has moved away from that format, so it is no longer maintained.
To avoid the failed links to images the pdf version can be used https://www2.manager.io/manager.pdf

Dear respected Eko,

we respected your decision, and really feel sorry for that.
wishing you peaceful and successful life.

Dear @eko,

Thank you very much for all your efforts. I and undoubtedly many users with me appreciated them very much.
It is with great respect that we have to say goodbye to your position as Moderator.
Being a Moderator is not an easy job, takes a lot of time and users do not always show the respect and gratitude you would expect.
Therefore, a word of thanks is very much in order now.
All the best to you.

It is sad that you take this view, but I understand where you are coming from. I’m sure people go Into panic mode when they discover a problem and rather than search the forums or guides, just jump in with a new question. I think this is just human nature as users automatically think that the problem has never come up before. Seasoned users are more inclined to look for an answer first before resorting to the forum. Sometimes, you can even search the forum for a problem and not find it, only to discover that a different use of words had been used in the previous forum entry or guides.

@Eko
Your past dedication is highly regarded. Thank you very much.
Your decision reflects the mature approach to filter away things that become a burden, rather than a joy.
Best wishes with your main endeavours elsewhere.

@ Others: We can only hope that others that are guilty of posting haphazardly, take note of the punchline contained in your message and work towards less frustration on the part of others on this forum.
