# Security for offline

You will need to set password for the computer. There are no plans to add password protection for offline version.

This is because to do it securely, the whole database would have to be encrypted and if password is forgotten or lost, there would be no way to reset your password - data would be lost.

Keep in mind, other accounting packages such as Quickbooks do have password protection but they do it in insecure way where there is a backdoor so database can be still recovered even if password is lost / forgotten. We don’t want to go down that path.
