Is there an alternative method to preserve my Reports/Invoices as PDF files on my computer in the new version, aside from the option of printing the document as a PDF?

You can view and reprint them any time you want
That’s the most reliable method of preserving a copy of an important report sent to a third party, and the method I use. I find attaching it to the related transaction helpful.
Because they can change with user actions or program updates. These changes may or may not be more accurate than the original however the original is still a valuable part of my accounting records.
Perhaps just email them to yourself
Have you enabled the legacy PDF generator under Obsolete Features in the Settings tab?
