Made a few mistakes when doing some book keeping today!
So I need to revert back to my last backup from July.
Manager 17.1.33
I’m using Mac, so I go and right click on file, open with / manager but I get…

The document “XXXXXXXXXX (2017-07-15).manager” could not be opened. Manager cannot open files of this type.

Don’t get it!

you are nine months behind Manager updates. the latest version is 17.10.65

you need to import the backup file into Manager.
read this guide [https://www.manager.io/guides/8890](https://www.manager.io/guides/8890)

recent updates have allowed Manager to open business files directly without the need to importing them. but there is a catch. read about the same in the following release note.

> [@\[17.10.0\] Open Manager files directly when using desktop edition](https://forum.manager.io/t/17-10-0-open-manager-files-directly-when-using-desktop-edition/11921):

> There is a significant portion of users who dislike concept of Application Data folder and I get that. Application Data folder is a special folder where Manager stores all its data. The advantage of the folder is that it abstracts away concept of the file system which is not applicable in cloud and server editions. When using Manager, you simply create new business and let Manager worry about where database should be saved on the computer or the server. You are expected to use Backu…

Can’t find what “the catch” is!

So if I upgrade to the latest version I will be able to open the backup file that I want?

Cheers

well you would have found the below post when reading the topic i attached earlier.

> The latest version (17.10.7) doesn’t show to the top menu at all if opening the file directly. I think it is the best approach to make it most obvious you are opening the file directly rather than launching the application and working within Application Data folder.

Be careful, @dogart! Once you open a file with a newer version, you cannot open it with an older version. And any file opened directly will not be the same file showing on your Businesses page. The safest thing to do is update your software first, then import the July backup. It should come in with the date appended to the company name.

Once you have entered the missing transactions, Remove the old company named file on the Businesses page. Then rename the import by deleting the date.
