January 2024 Manager Feedback

I have just updated to the latest version of Manager today. It looks like the last time I updated was January 2023, so just over 13 months ago!

I just wanted to provide positive feedback on the new version.

MFA

I specifically updated to the latest version of Manager so that I could try out the new MFA. So thank you for implementing MFA. This is essential nowadays. Hopefully I will encounter no issues with this. It looks like others who have started using this, have found it works well. I agree that the default administrator account should use MFA as well.

Product Key

Manager now finally requests me to update my product key and actually allows me to update the product key in the new version. This is a good improvement. I am hoping that it will show me a reminder to update the license in a couple of months time.

Edit Columns

I have had a brief look at the “new” Edit Columns feature which was implemented after January 2023, so this is new to me, although it’s been out for a year. I think this is a very worthwhile feature and I am pleased to see this in the latest version. I will have to spend a bit of time reviewing what I want to see in each view. I particularly like the default improvements on say the inventory page view. You have removed quantity to receive, on hand, to deliver which has reduced the screen clutter on the inventory page as there were too many columns there. Anyway, I am really looking forward to trying it out.

New Statuses

I quite like the improvements made to the statuses as we now have status for customer, supplier and employee and other tabs - which did not exist in the past. It makes it easy to see very quickly who still needs to pay or be paid on the actual tab itself.

Supplier Status

One comment I have with regards to Suppliers (and most likely Customers). Every other tab has active or pending on top. However, I have one Supplier that has not been paid yet, however they are not showing in the top row unlike quotes, orders etc that are active. They are showing in alphabetical order. As the default for other tabs is to have active at the top, should this not apply for suppliers? On the other hand, quotes are transactions, suppliers, customers are not, so perhaps it is correct as it is.

Status Icons

This may just be my personal preference and a view not shared by others. I find that the new colour and font of the status tab is not as good as the previous colour and font. The new style almost looks like the writing is slightly out of focus compared to the previous style. The previous style font was much clearer and more legible to read. I like the understated colour of the old statuses as well as the size of the “icon” - the old status was slightly smaller in size which I think was a better size!

Duplicates View

The latest version now shows duplicates for inventory, invoice or other reference numbers. Nice improvement as I did not realise I had duplicates anywhere.

Pinning of Column Headers when scrolling down

Long overdue. Pleased to see this introduced. Makes life so much easier.

No doubt there are many other improvements that I have not noticed yet, but just wanted to provide feedback on the improvements that I have noticed that I personally benefited from.

I have just finished using the Edit Columns feature and all I can say is wow. Really makes a difference. Finally can get rid of all the empty columns that I have never needed and added useful columns and even more importantly set the order of the columns the way I wanted. Huge improvement and I am very pleased with this.

In addition, it has completely transformed my Customers, Suppliers and Inventory Items Tabs. I love the way that you can now view all receipts, quotes, orders, invoices and delivery notes for all clients in one view and the same for suppliers. Ironically enough when I first started using Manager in 2015, this was something I requested as I was used to accounting programs where you open the customer view and you can see all their invoices etc. While you could always get this information using search within the various tabs, this is so much better and it just ties up Customers with their quotes, invoices etc.

The Edit Columns feature also makes it possible for companies like mine to track deliveries in the Orders Tab and for other companies who actually keep stock (not just order on demand) to keep track of all this information in Inventory Tabs. I have never needed the on hand, delivery etc information in Inventory Items as I don’t warehouse stock. My inventory Items view is so concise now.

The Edit Columns feature really does make it possible for very different companies to use the same accounting program and yet be able to customise it to work exactly the way that particular company operates such as ordering on demand, versus warehouse supply type of ordering. Manager now has a very distinct offering for businesses who need this level of customisation and far too often are forced to work the way the program wants them to work, instead of the way their business actually operates. Killer feature.

Also very pleased with the status functionality that has cropped up in various tabs including changing the colour of various status icons so it is consistent across tabs. It does help to organise the transactions better and I think the statuses for the sales order tab in conjunction with the Edit Columns feature really does make the Sales Tab work very well.

All I have to do tomorrow is find out what the difference between Order Amount and Invoice Amount in the Sales/Purchase Order Tabs is and then I am done with Editing my Columns.
