Invoice serial number and prefix. Why it have problems?

I just back to old discussion. This problem is as old as the World. How to add alphabetical prefix before Invoice number?

Example: ABC 000001 or KL-0001

Editing customer Theme and adding HTML script not solve this problem for me. First time new Invoice can be saved with prefix and number but all next numbers with prefix can be added only manually. Program not generate numbers with alphabetical prefix’es, removes all letters and zeros before whole numbers. Anyway problem is not solved. Anybody know solution?
