SMTP is an old protocol. It doesn’t support two-factor authentication.

Can you paste here the exact thing that Microsoft is saying?

Thankyou for responding.
This is what they said:-

The safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft. To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your [Outlook.com](http://Outlook.com), Hotmail or [Live.com](http://Live.com) email address on September 16th.

What do you need to do?

If you are receiving this email, you are currently using an email or calendar app that uses a less secure authentication method to connect to your [Outlook.com](http://Outlook.com) email account. You will need to upgrade your third-party mail and calendar app to a version which supports modern authentication methods.

可

Microsoft provides free versions of Outlook for your PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices which can be easily downloaded and connect to your email account. Using an updated version of an Outlook application will ensure you are connecting in the most secure way.

How can you set up your Gmail, Apple Mail, or other third-party mail application?

Various non-Microsoft applications will have their own steps for connecting to your [Outlook.com](http://Outlook.com) email account using modern authentication methods. See our help article - Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps.

However, you may need to contact the creators of those applications to provide you with instructions. In many cases, simply removing and re-adding your account with the latest version of that application will configure it to use modern authentication methods.

I received the same email from Microsoft. I logged on to my account and made an app specific password. This worked nicely.

Creating an app password for third-party applications in Microsoft Outlook involves enabling two-step verification and then generating an app password. In the Manager SMTP settings you use that password rather than your usual one. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

### Step 1: Enable Two-Step Verification

1. **Sign in to your Microsoft account** :

- Go to the [Microsoft account security page](https://account.microsoft.com/security).
- Sign in with your Microsoft account credentials.

1. **Enable two-step verification** :

- In the “Security” section, find the “Two-step verification” option.
- Click on “Set up two-step verification” and follow the on-screen instructions to enable it.

### Step 2: Generate an App Password

1. **Go to the Security page** :

- Visit the [Microsoft account security page](https://account.microsoft.com/security).

1. **Sign in again if prompted**.

2. **Find the “App passwords” section** :

- Click on “More security options” under the “Security basics” section.
- Scroll down to the “App passwords” section.

1. **Create a new app password** :

- Click on “Create a new app password”.
- Microsoft will generate a new app password for you.

1. **Use the app password** :

- Copy the generated app password.
- Use this password instead of your Microsoft account password when setting up Manager.

### Step 3: Configure Manager SMTP server settings.

1. Open Manager SMTP Server settings.
2. Enter hostname: `smtp-mail.outlook.com`
3. Enter port: `587`
4. Enter username: `Your email username`
5. Enter password: `Use the secure app password` that you generated instead of your normal password.
